I'm not planning to mail order anything this year. While I'm not expecting to see anything special at the local garden centers, it would be nice if I could find the Rockin' series of salvias. I'd like to try a Rockin' 'Deep purple'(I've grown Amistad for years), Rockin' 'Fuchsia (new this year), and I'd even try a Rockin' 'Playin' the blues' if I found one. Salvia 'amante' would be at the top of my list, but the chance of finding that locally is about zero.
I have many other salvia, cuphea, lantana, and stachytarpheta overwintering in my window and in the basement under a light. By doing that I save a bunch of money and it gives me something green to do over our long, cold winter.
Last year I ordered some agastache rupestris 'apache sunset' seeds and I got a few plants started. I have a couple overwintering in the ground and a couple in the garage. I know the garage ones are still alive. This year I will finally see them grow out and bloom.
Beyond salvia & agastache, I just picked up some cardinal climber vine and asclepias tuberosa (butterfly weed) seeds. I hope to grow several plants of each in a creek area near my house.
