My soil mix is: 1 part gran-i-grit and one part fine bark mulch. With a little either sulfer, or oyster shell. But I get ahead of myself.

I add damp paper-towel to a zip-lock and the seeds I intend to cold stratify. If my seeds are prunus I do not clean them well before bagging, Into fridge they go.

Peach-plum-cherry seem to be the most impatient of the lot. 4 to 6 weeks later roots are emerging. Into tray (or shallow pot) and onto lighted bench. I may or may not clip one end of the stone to facilitate root emergence. I have even shucked out the almond altogether.

All viable cold treated seeds go into tray and either onto lighted bench (indoors) or out into direct sun. No calls or individual pots. It is too early for that.

Yummy nuts need to go onto lighted bench, or behind hardware cloth out of doors. Squirrels are not your friend.

Once seedlings have hardened some (July to late August), Then and only then do I set up single cells for seedlings. Seedlings remain in cells till fall plant out. Or in the case of root-stocks they may remain in tree pots intil big enough to graft onto in subsequent springs.

Fertilization for seedlings is by dilute liquid fertilizer, Follow directions at half-strength..
