Welcome!
I am sure your wife is looking upon you and is bursting with pride that her husband is honoring her by tending to her roses (and other plants), and also by planting a dozen more roses! Mighty nice way of remembering your wife!
I echo all that has been already mentioned in this thread so far. In regards to Mister Lincoln, in my personal experience of growing one, it will take time for it to be well-established. In other words, it will focus on putting bottom growth first, once after the rootstock is up and growing, you will see more of top growth. Some roses are like Mister Lincoln; they are slow growers and take time to get established. Do not add any fertilizer or Epsom salt. Give it time all the while watering it regularly, and you will see some progress. If you are still concerned, take a picture of it and share it, so others might shed some light on the issues inhibiting the rose growth if any.
As for the books, I highly recommend starting with light reading, primarily as a beginner with A Year In The Life Of A Rose by Rayford Clayton Reddell. Another book by the same author that I found useful was Growing Good Roses. I also found Rose Growing Complete by E.B.Le Grice informative, detailed but dense. I will save it for later.
