Happy New Year to everyone. Hope you have made your list of gardening resolutions for the year. Here's my short list of resolutions for the year. I think I can keep these.

Work on my vegetable garden space. Finish adding compost to the bed and get it ready for early spring.
Resolve to let go of some of the tropicals that are “fussy” and take up too much of my time in the summer.
Change the outside watering system to more drip irrigation and less hand watering.
Monitor the water bill monthly.
Resist the urge to buy so many annuals in the spring, knowing they aren’t going to make it into July.
Pull out and give away plants that no longer work for me, or extras that I have.
Use more bulbs for seasonal interest. Bulbs will return each year and multiply.
Resolve to make my garden a retreat to enjoy, instead of being just a yard that needs constant care.

And finally,
Be vigilant and catch that dadgum armadillo that’s tearing up what little’s left of my grass out front.
