A whole row of forsythia developed root rot and died or was mostly dead after last year's dreadfully rainy spring and summer, combined with our neighbor's sump pump spilling her share of the wetness over onto our side of the porperty line. So I have decided that a row of "Berry Poppins" together with 3 male Mr. Poppins winterberry hollies might like that moist area more than the forsythia did.
Hubby managed to pry out the whole row of them ( about 53 feet of forsythia hedge) this spring, and today we went out and measured the row so I could calculate how many Berry Poppins and Mr. Poppins to order. Then I placed my order. Done. They say delivery will be next week.
Now I'm going to make up some Cornell formula (neem oil, baking soda, and a couple drops of dish-wasing detergent in water) and go out and spray it on:
1. The irises (the neem oil will kill crawling iris bores larvae)
2. The peonies ( to prevent powdery mildew).
3. And the roses ( to kill rose slugs - the saw fly larvae).
Bye for now.
