Here is a tip about mail order plants:
Shipping costs (UPS, FedEx, USPS) are most often based on the volume of the box, not the weight. Large plants cost more to ship than small ones because they require larger boxes. So if the shipping charges are low, it is very often the case that plants are going to be pruned to fit in a small box.
