I was teasing Jan... what's that called, double entendre (?) as you're on page 99...Although some do just fine, at 100 years old. One never knows, until they live for so long...Yes, it's Shawn & my middle name, after... I've actually no idea about the pollen, though I grew tall bearded many years & always just cut the stalks off , after flowering, immediately!
I really don't know why, I'd never tried to start any hybrids of my own, from tall bearded Iris. Seeing as how I always liked to start so many different seeds.I had only just purchased seeds & tried I.ensata, (may have been called 'Colors of the Rainbow'?) by Park's Seeds, many years ago & maybe some from Jelitto's, (imports from Germany & you don't need to do any paper work) that way, previously, until recently, this winter & have some "baby" sprouts, in perlite & a few others in baggies.. Otherwise, I simply ordered rhizomes of what I liked, but now it is so different.

Perhaps, some produce pollen, better than others & some are better pod parents, is about all I can figure. Maybe something genetic, makes them predisposed that way.
If too much closely related inbreeding, they call it "depressed reproduction capability" or something to that effect.
I'd love to have 'Foreign Agent' as I think it's terrific, thank you, Jan. Very kind of you to offer.
