Now that Bonnie is back safe & without harm I wanted to post the last of the iris gardens from the past week or two. The heat was the big "killer" of both irises and peonies too. Most days here were in the mid to upper 80's with dry wind. That seemed to almost "melt" fresh blooms. Anyway things have fizzled out for this year. I can't complain too much except for excessive rain. With that said here are some I ended up with in the last week of irises.
This is an old favorite from Schreiners in 1981 named Lorilee, TB. Hard to believe that was almost 40 years ago! Then another late bloomer is Social Blush, TB, M. Sutton 2008. Sunlight levels make all the difference in its pink color. I've tried to show it here in two pictures in fairly low level sun. Still a beautiful iris no matter the lighting.
This next one is Soul Mate, one of Joe Ghio's creations with its bubbly ruffles and coming on as a ballet dancer. TB, Ghio 2013. The coloring is awesome, "Blue lavender, pink undertoned, ages more silvery". The next one is Vanity's Child, TB, Olsen 1985. Freshly opened with flaring falls. I didn't have any more irises to post so I am putting in a couple of peony blooms to help balance out the post. The first peony is "Lottie Dawson Rea" and the second is "Primevere". They are all gone so fast.
My sincere thanks to Bonnie for allowing me to post here and be a part of this Fellowship of the Garden. It is a lasting experience which I am sure will endure for quite some time.
