Winterberry is a type of holly which is different from the evergreen type. Winterberry is not evergreen and looses it's leaves just like commmon shrubs. You still need a male and female for pollination in order to get berries but one male will do. I have one male and thirteen females. I have Red Sprite and it's male pollinator. Jim Dandy. The red berries are just so pretty and a fantastic winter food source for berry eating songbirds.
