There used to be small stands of aspens in my mountains. I'm not sure how or when they got there, because they are not really all that common in KY and I'm also not sure they are still there. There are lovely legends about them, though, the sounds they make, whispering when the wind is not even blowing. Because of their whispering sounds they were often considered sacred by Native Americans.

Well, it's snowing sideways now. This morning when I got up my back deck looked just like some little old lady had dropped her powder puff on it. Then the wind blew that away and it was gone till now. Now it's snowing sideways. Until last night it had been about 60* since Christmas. The lakes that surround us are about 50 degrees even now. I doubt there'll be any ice skating even with this little snowflake-y cold spell.
