Some time ago (a week maybe?) I started experimenting with allowing ads that are the same size as the image. I think it looks really good under the main image, especially when it's a nice pretty ad for something like Annie's Annuals (which often shows for me).
I looked into this a bit more and I can block ads based on categories. So I just went through and blocked a whole bunch of categories and that should help a lot. It may take an hour or two for the block to take effect, though.
