I will end up being known as that Orange rose guy like I am here in Maryland. I'm opening this forum for everyone to share pohtos and thoughts on orange rose breeds. Feel free to submit a photo and some notes on how well it grows, smells, issues or praises. Over all have fun and stop to smell the roses.
Dolly Parton. Rarely ever without a bloom. Beautiful matte foliage and a fast grower. A scent that should be tottled and sold. it carries on the wind and is simply gorgeous. I have more photos in other foums of this and added to the database. Pretty disease resistant. Gets some black spot but its controllable.
this is a photo from last year its first year of growing. I will get more photos of it this year.
Gingersnap. Another constant bloomer. No scent but very bright flowers that do fade with in a day or 2. They are a neonish orange and have yellow and orange red areas like in the first photo. After the first flush the flowers seem to be much smaller but more plentiful. Maybe its the heat wave? Gets black spot every year but bounces back VERY fast and doesn't skip a beat on flowering even when the black spot is really bad.
first photo was from the nursery and when I decided to take it home.
Prominent. I cant really speak on this to well. I had it for one season before moving to NY temporarily. I had a friend care for it and the winter was just to strong for a potted plant. The blooms are smaller, sharply reflexed petals. Blooms bright yellow orange sometimes coral overtones and fades relatively quickly. Up right grower form the little experience Ive had. The foliage is beautiful on its own. matte medium green. the color is soft to the eye and pleasing. I would grow it for the leaves alone.
Salita. I'm trying this one again. My first oen got taken over by don Juan so it didn't bloom much. So far seems to be a slow grower. The blooms when its young are cup like and open with filly double blooms in a dome like shape. The color is a knock out. bright bright medium orange sometimes edging on the red orange side. for an established plant you get more of the high centered form on occasion as it opens. No scent and shiny beautiful foliage often with a maroon tinge. Pretty good disease resistance. Or above average. It diesnt really get sick even with gingersnap spewing spores.
Baby salita bloom. The color is flattened here but it is a pulsating neon orange scarlet.
MY QUEEN ROSE Kordes' Brillant. 1983
Pure unadulterated ORANGE . Rivaling the sun in its brilliant glow. Gorgeous deep leaves on a study plant. The blooms dont have much, if any, scent but that can be forgiven when getting lost in its ruffled, glowing ember petals. 10/10
NOTE: Uploading seems to have dulled some of the colors out. Especially on the last photo of Salita. But you get the general idea and I'm happy to add to the database or email photos to clarify. All of these oranges where super clean and clear oranges. Often the camera could not capture the intensity.
Honorable mention.
Unknown, I guess not technically and Orange but it teeters on the orange side in cooler months. A miniature rose from Safeway. no scent, medium to fair re-bloomer. Dark green shiny foliage . Makes me smile and playes will with the other orange roses in the garden.
