You should try some woven groundcover it lasts 20 years no problem. I buy mine from a seller on ebay called allseasonscovered. Localy I was paying 125 for a 3 x 300ft roll now I pay less for a 6 x 600 ft roll incluing shipping. I've been buying from them for 3 years now and have about 1 acre covered so far. I don't know them or have any affiliation they was just the cheapest I found for heavy duty groundcovers.
I agree the stuff in the big box stores sold as landscape fabric is cheap crap that will let weeds come through the first year. The only time I have a weeds on my woven groundcover is if soil washes on top of it but even then they are easily removed. Nothing is ever coming through the bottom of this stuff
