You find mixed information because you search on google. Google is full of information but not much is correct.
Phalaenopsis grow in a bright place without any direct sunlight. Many Masdevallias, Maxillarias, Dracula's, terrestrial orchids like Jewel Orchids, also like this light level.
Next level is just a couple hours of morning sun, NOT afternoon sun which is hotter and brighter. That's where many Oncidiums, some Dendrobiums, some Cattleyas, Miltonias, Brassias, like to grow.
Next level is maybe three to four hours of sun, Cattleyas, Broughtonias, more Dendrobiums, some Vandaceous plants Catasetums like to grow.
Last level for me is the 4-6 hours of sun. Large Vandas, Rhyncholaelia digbyana, mule eared Oncidiums, Dendrobium phalaenopsis Grow.
You will find differences amongst orchid growers with these levels but this is just my opinion.
Look at them as no sun, 2 hours, 4 hours and 6 hours. With both the 4 and 6 hour level, you may have to shade the plants if all of those hours are between noon and six pm because of more intense afternoon sun and that time frame is the warmest part of the day.
My buddy Bill Thoms says Bulbophyllum like " bright shade". He defines it as bright light with maybe up to an hour of morning sun.
