I seem to remember I read somewhere that lavender roses, extremely robust roses (like Mr. Lincoln), and Austins are all shade tolerant in zone 9. I have a paper somewhere with a list. When I find it, I will start a shade-tolerant rose thread.

It's trained to be a tree, at least that's when we bought it. Here is a picture of the honeysuckle, it's shading the cute lizard, he is like a pet here, comes very close to us.
