Brrr! Winter have you longing for tropical blooms? You’re in luck. MamaJack is having fun this year! She’s found us an array of hardy plants with a tropical look as well as tropicals that can be grown in containers for those of us in colder zones.

Want blooms as big as your head? Japanese tree peonies and lotus plants have incredible flower power, and both are hardy to zone 3-4! Hardy hibiscus give a huge punch of color, and their hybrid tropical cousins pump out stunning blooms all summer. Blooming water lilies literally stop people in their tracks.

Need special and spectacular bloomers? Pot up an assortment of gingers and other lovelies from Tejas Tropicals. Pineapple Lilies” (Eucomis) are rarely seen but easy to grow, with glorious spring blooms. Asiatic & oriental lilies take center stage in your summer garden and containers: their “hot” colors and rich fragrance will just make you swoon.

If you’ve always wanted a lush tropical look in your garden or containers, check out the current sales at MamaJack’s!

Japanese Tree Peonies: large and luscious
http://cubits.org/notfortheser...
Love everything except the way peony plants fade away after blooming? Tree peonies are handsome small landscape specimens with a year-round presence. And the way they bloom! They’ll remind you of the enormous tissue-paper flowers you made as a kid, with layer after sumptuous layer of frilly petals. A single bloom makes more of a statement than most bouquets; a tree peony covered in blooms will just blow you away. MamaJ found 8 varieties in a range of beautiful colors. Make room for more than one!

Eucomis (“Pineapple Lily”): amaze your friends with this easy exotic beauty
http://cubits.org/notfortheser...
Add some tropical pizzaz and architectural WOW to your garden this year. You won’t believe the blooms on these beauties – like pineapples made up of a zillion lovely little flowers, complete with a green tuft of leaves on top. They’re incredibly tough and easy to grow, and they should be hardy to zone 7 with protection (colder zones, just bring them inside while they’re dormant). MamaJ found four fabulous varieties for us. Get some while they last!

Hardy Hibiscus: bigger & better every year
http://cubits.org/notfortheser...
Often called “Dinner Plate Hibiscus,” the flowers on H. moscheutos would look right at home in any jungle, but they’ll flourish in zones 4-10. Tender tropical hibiscus are beautiful in their own right, but when you realize these hardy lovelies will resprout every spring in nearly every zone, you’ll want one in every color. Their beauty doesn’t start & stop with their blooms, either. Whether leavers are green, purple toned, or veined with red, they’re a great backdrop to other plants in your border.

Tropical Hibiscus: grow them “up North,” too!
http://cubits.org/notfortheser...
These new “Cajun” hybrids just vibrate with color that ripples and swirls across their ruffled petals. These aren’t the garden-variety red or pink hibiscus you see at your local garden center. Those “forced” plants have smaller flowers and seldom rebloom, even if they survive until next year. The flowers on hybrid hibiscus are twice as big, and these vigorous plants can dazzle and delight you for years to come. Start your collection of these hard-to-find beauties today!
