Susan, it's the bright sun. I forgot to stand where my shadow was cast on the plant. (I'm not as good a photographer as Sheryl and Bob and the others, I don't think.) My gardens are 90% full sun. Those Cones have taken a lickin' and keep on tickin'. That picture is third season. They are not as deep a yellow as some to begin with.
I garden for the pollinators.
