Not a darker daytime, just a darker night time. If you can manage the temperature drop, that might be enough. I used to put mine out on a sunporch for the fall where temps dropped to about 50 at night.

BTW, In the wild, the Schlumbergera (Holiday cactus) grow epiphytically (in a tree) or on rocks (epilithic). What they need is fast draining porous soil that also dries quickly. There's not a lot of fertilizer in that situation.
