Lyn, are you talking about "Rose Gardener's Disease?" It sounds something to be avoided, even if it's not considered fatal.

There are a lot of roses that are not heavily armed with thorns. In the NGA database there are 8 pages of roses that came up when I did a search for that characteristic. In the HMF database, the same search yielded 137 pages.

No, not all of them are in commerce.

@fisherwoman ... I have a lot of roses in this garden that are armed with thorns, including two moss roses. I can tell you from personal experience that the thorns did not deter either the deer-chomp prune nor the wood rat-prune even a little bit. The roses with lots of thorns got attacked as readily as the roses that had few or no thorns.
