I have an unconventional question, and I'm sorry if it's been answered before...

My Thanksgiving cacti are just starting to bud.
I don't want them to bloom, because I fear it'll stress them out, and I will be unable to manage their recovery, and they will die.
(Their original mother plant died a slow death a year and a half after its last bloom.)

Is my fear even valid?
If so, how can I safely pinch off the buds without damaging the plants?
Alternatively, if I leave the buds alone to bloom, how can I best ensure they recover after blooming?
