Jeanne, for my lilium seeds, if they are asiatic, trumpet or OT types, I cut the bottom corners off the quart sized freezer bags and 3 slits along the bottom. Add a handful of slightly moist medium. I personally user pro-mix BX with myco. Spread the soil evenly and plant 10 seeds or so in each baggie. Then cover with a quarter inch or so of more soil.
I use plastic shoe boxes to put them in. 5 or 6 baggies each. And place them in a big tote with a lid so it's dark.
Once germination has begun then they will go under the grow lights in the basement.
The ones under the lights now are seedlings from last winter that are refusing to go into dormancy. Eventually when the weather warms up and frost us passed, they will go out on the porch for a few weeks to harden off and then moved out into more sunlight.
My method for when I plant seedlings is if they grow a stem they get planted. Otherwise I winter them over inside which involves bringing the pots inside and drying then out a little. Then digging the bulbs out of the pots and putting them in freezer bags with peat moss and in the fridge. Keeping a close eye on condensation and temps around 35 degrees.
