The only cuttings I've tried were from a plant that the dogs broke. I just dipped the broken ends in rooting hormone and stuck them in a pot I had in the shade and kept it damp, and most of them developed roots. I don't know if that was beginners luck, or if they really are that easy.

I keep meaning to try again, I planned on taking cuttings in the fall, but things came up, and it totally slipped my mind until after the frost got them.
