goedric said:First, do you happen to know if there is shared ownership or a formal affiliation between this garden site which is owned by the NGA and the AHS (ADS)?

There is no shared ownership between NGA and AHS as far as I know. Shrug!

goedric said:And has the AHS (ADS) asked you to censor that alternative term for "Sculpted Cristate" on this forum or is that your personal decision.

There is NO alternative term for Sculpted cristate. While hybridizers can use whatever they want for their own MARKETING strategy the term "beard" is botanically incorrect and does not apply to daylilies.
I wrote 4 articles published in The Daylily Journal on Sculpted forms and worked on the AHS SSC (AHS/ADS Scientific Studies Committee) for 2 years writing the definitions and working with the committee to have Sculpted with the 3 sub-groups recognized as a Form of daylilies for registration. I have collected, studied and hybridized sculpted forms for 20+ years. Those in the hobby from when I wrote the first article are aware of all that has gone on over the past 12 years, I see no need to rehash it over and over. There is MUCH more to the backstory than the simple improper use of a botanical term. Incorrect information can be found all over the internet and people, like you, new to this hobby have been conned by the clever marketing one hybridizer.

As moderator I am not interested in furthering Mr. Best's agenda of confusing and misleading NGA members for his own personal gain. The inevitable personal attacks, on both sides, that follow any and all discussions using his marketing term is disruptive to this forum, our members and their interest in learning what is the correct terminology for this form of daylily. The FACT that Mr. Best and several of his promoters have been banned from this forum, and nearly every other daylily group on the internet, confirms the position myself and other moderators have taken on this subject. I'm sure someone with your background understands the importance of using correct, accepted terminology. Intentionally taking the time to type "beard (sorry, sculpted cristate)" in your first post of this thread after I politely asked you to use the correct terminology points to your determination to disrupt our forum. If you want to continue using the incorrect term …..take it elsewhere.

goedric said:However, the AHS (ADS) registration categories are clear, so there is no doubt how such daylilies should be formally registered.

They are very clear. Long before this forum was merged into NGA the moderators have supported and encouraged the use of correct terminology accepted by the leading authority on daylilies, The American Hemerocallis Society or American Daylily Society.

Sculpted

Pleated

Relief

Cristate

Now that we all now know the correct terminology let's stop rehashing ancient history and move on using the accepted terminology.
