I think greens and black eyed peas are definitely southern.
I don't know any northerners who even eat those ever.
My family was German, and the tradition was to cook pork and sauerkraut on New Years day for good luck during the year. I never make sauerkraut anymore due to the high salt content. I've got a pot of 15 bean soup cooking on the stove. (Using up the ham and ham bone from Christmas. I had frozen it).
