I've always been a big believer in "better a day too early than a day too late." She *could* have recovered from what she was dealing with, but it would have taken weeks and she would have been miserable the whole time. I couldn't bear watching her decline any further, and there's no way I would ever make one of my dogs live in conditions I'm not willing to live in.

Mary, I agree with the Doc that you did the right thing. It's so hard sometimes to let them go. I've seen it happen where the pet is really suffering but the owners can't bear to have them euthanized .... to me it's the humane thing to do. They love us unconditionally and look to us to make the decision to allow them to pass without suffering. It always breaks our heart to have to let them go, but let them go we must .... it's all part of life. My only pet right now is a 17 year old kitty who seems to be doing pretty well for a feline whose kidney's began shutting down two years ago. I am very watchful of her on a daily basis though because I won't allow her to suffer.

I'm so glad you have your other canine buddies to help you through the grieving process. And, just know that your friends here at ATP care and that our hearts go out to you.

((((( Hugs )))))
