This guy was perched on our courtyard gate Friday evening.

I fried shrimp po'boys for four, and after eating, DH taught daughter, grandson, and me to play Texas Hold 'Em. It was raining and the wind was fierce. It finally stopped about 10 PM. Our company wanted to get home 'cause DD's husband was due in from Waco.

I saw what looked like a branch may have gotten caught in the open gate. DGS volunteered to take trash out and DD followed him out shortly. The porch light was on, but neither of them saw the owl. I called DD to come back to the gate. She walked right past the owl again. I had to tell her to look at the gate. That's when my sweet, only child let out a scream and a stream of profanities!
The owl never moved. But DD was loud enough to draw a few neighbors outside! She also managed to take a
few photos once she calmed down.

The owl was about 8" and may have been injured since it didn't try to fly away (or peck out our eyes).
I hope it was just resting, and not injured. We have an owl house in our backyard, but haven't seen any residents.
Anyone know what kind of owl it is?
