Just removing the background like I did for this is really very easy, but time consuming. The higher the resolution of the photo the better. Sometimes working with this photo I had it enlarged to where just three pixels was about 1/2 across. At that magnification it can be hard to tell where the background ends and subject begins unless you have a high res photo.
