I am sure us "old timers" have lot of trivial tucked away in our heads. I was on a local radio station sharing my recollections of the nurseries in the Santa Cruz area in the l940's and 50's. It was six appearances and was fun to do.

As a sidebar to the 88-180P. It didn't bloom the first yr. as seedling, but the non bloomers were held over since the cross showed promise. It bloomed the next year on a short stalk but it got my attention quickly as something different from a different breeding: Notorious X 86-30G: (Success Story x (Fancy Tales x Alpine Castle) ) x ((Persian Smoke x Entourage) x (Strawberry Sundae x (Artiste x Tupelo Honey) x Borderline sib)))) x Romantic Evening). Bill Maryott came over to put "rags" on the seedlings that would be "commercial". I would give them to him to grow in San Jose (at this time I was growing my seedlings in some 7 backyards of friends and relatives). This was my grandmother's backyard. Anyway I didn't point 188P to him, waiting for him to find it. He passed it right by. After he was done with his rags, I brought him to 180P and told him, "see what you missed". He sort of shrugged his shoulders. And I told him, one day I'm going to make you eat your words! Well today 88-180P progeny are many, including Starring (which has it's own backstory).

Speculating, I believe that the genetic pool for the L&S line comes thru Fancy Tales since it appears on both sides of 180P. Also similar material in the Hamner material,
