Really nice trellises. I agree with Evey they look really good even bare they add some really nice winter interest.
I needed something pretty large for the side of my house where I wanted to plant climbing hydrangeas. So Ric designed this for me. He was going to build it but we were pretty busy at the time so one of our sons came over and did the building and install.
It will be fun to see how the hydrangeas do. It was so large that we planted a small boxwood between the posts which Ric will cut into some kind of Topiary shape one of these years.
It was built in two pieces and dado together. It would have been easier and quicker to just bolt the pieces together and it would have given it more dimension but it wouldn't have been quite as strong. I think if we were doing something like it again I would like to have the dado cuts a little shallower which would give the strength but with more dimension. It was a rather intricate pattern requiring a good bit of work. In the first picture (please ignore the messy work area) you can see the two pieces and some of the many cuts, that is Josh working on it.
