In first generation out crosses, it is common to lose something desirable that can be recovered in a backcross. And if you don't have the plant to backcross, sibling crosses may do it...but they may also make matters worse. I should have added that all of those "look alike" blooms had really bad plants under them on their first bloom so I would not want to do sibling crosses with them until they develop for a few years to see if they are worth using as parents.. They had very low bud counts. Low bud count crossed with another low bud count is not something desirable IMHO. I'd rather do the backcross.
I prefer line breeding...it ups your chances of successful outcomes given a limited amount of space. The pod parents with the PG cross were heavily line bred so I thought I might have a moderate amount of success. But Mr. Steve sent my bonus seeds to Mr Lyshack by mistake!!! (sigh)
