Sunny, with a high near 51. Breezy, with a west wind 10 to 15 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph.

Rj,
Great band and song!
LOL! Love the socks!

Seil,
The weather can only get better!

Jeanne,
My sympathy for your snow. Mine was little and melted before we got more.

Mac,
I'm hovering around 30°.

I packed away all the stuff I can until I get more tubs.

I haven't been out yet, but it's already windy and not as bad as it's going to get.

Ana Garcia and her family were brought to Iowa specifically to shear sheep. I remember her in my 4th grade class, and then they moved to the next town where I met her again in middle school.

Story Time:

Today's story is for Ana Garcia and her Father.

Sheep

June 30, 1968

I'm 11, and we just bought a few sheep from my Great Uncle, Russell Wykert. Even though we had a pony first, the pasture is still called the sheep pen to this day.

When a ewe was ready to give birth Dad would put her in the chicken house with a heat lamp. He had built two small pens and laid down straw.

We had quite a few twins and the first set we named Pat and Poody after my Dad's brother and his wife. The first single was named Poppy. Is there anything cuter than a baby lamb on your porch?

Henry Paulson, from the other end of town, came and sheared them. That was fun to watch. He turned them this way and that and they didn't raise a fuss at all. When they had no wool left, they were so scrawny. We laughed at them and I swear we made them feel naked and foolish. I did find out that wool is greasy and not at all pleasant to touch.

Every once in awhile when I'm in the barn with Dad, I still catch a whiff of sheep in there.
