Our 8 year old Bromeliads have been growing steadily without much attention but now we are thinking about how to control it. Start to take away some from the bottom, center or every where?

Also, the the bottom ones are a little dusty and would like to spray some soapy water on them, is that safe with dish washing detergent?
Thanks
