I started the cuttings early (when I discovered you could do that!) in the fall. I have a small greenhouse, so I protected them in there until they were rooted, then brought the plants indoors to overwinter on my back porch. I stuck them in coffee cans with the bottoms cut out and replaced with the lids (with holes poked for drainage), then the following spring I just took the lid off the bottom of the can and planted the whole can. I've done that with tomatoes, too, and it works out nicely.
