Yes that is probably a good explanation. Average life expectancy for women in Sweden are 84.7 years, for men it is only 81.3 years.

Triage based on sex is definitely not allowed here, nor social status and so on. It is formally not even allowed to do triage based on chronological age.

Still there are obviously always considerations taken when deciding to place a patient in ICU or not, as to not cause unnecessary suffering. If one is a bit cynical one could perhaps claim other reasons, such as that there is usually to few ICU beds here even in normal circumstances. Very hard decisions to take at any rate.
