Ideally, it would be nice to see a photo of your plant first. I have no idea what cacti you have there.
Also give us more details like:
1) how long have you acquired your plant
2) what care have you provided to your plant like, watering and light exposure
3) Is this the first time ever you will repot it?
4) where are you growing your plant, what part of the world are you in..is it being grown indoors or outdoors.

Anyways, for a repot, for typical procedure, what I usually do is use a container not too big and not too deep for the plant. I also use a very gritty, well draining cacti mix, and using a container with drain holes. Fill the container near the rim of the container, but still enough space from the top edge, so that you do not spill soil during watering. Also after repotting, I do not water the plant yet. Give it a week or so or longer if it has no roots yet. The plant needs to grow new roots so it can further anchor itself as well as be able to drink moisture at the soil level.

And I always position my newly repotted ones in part sun area first, to give it time to adjust slowly to all the changes done to it. It needs to feel warmth around it, down to the soil, so it will help encourage root growth. If your outdoor conditions is still too rainy, then just bring it indoors for the time being but near your brightest/sunniest window. Good luck!
