I'm cleaning out a woodsy area beside our home (getting rid of buckthorns and will be planting more beneficial bushes and trees).
I have 2 kinds of trees/shrubs (?) that survived the buckthorn takeover and I'm wondering if they are worthwhile to keep.

#1 is just putting out leaves at the ends of its branches right now and is very smooth, light gray, and bendy.

#2 has "blushy" leaves after they emerge that turn green, and a dark bark (ignore the big tree in the background).

Does anyone recognize these?
