I am in North Central Idaho. The soil mix is a combination of commercial soil, local top soil and compost. I have not yet fertilized because I felt it was too early to do so. Young plants had been in the ground only a week and would not have used up nutrients. Obviously I could be wrong which is why I contacted a couple forums with experienced and knowledgeable people.

Intheswamp said:One more question. Was this a prepared soil mix? Do you know what the pH is of the soil mix?

As mentioned above it is a mix of local and commercially prepared soil mix and compost. The PH is unknown. None of the sources could tell me that and the "cheapy" soil test kit is notoriously inaccurate as far as PH.

HOWEVER, my local top soil alone is 6.2 and my well water is 7.2, this coming from a commercial lab test done last year.

Based upon your comments as well as another poster on another forum and my own research led me to hit them with some higher nitrogen organic fertilizer mix. Hopefully that helps. Either way, thank you for the time and effort in your responses.
