So just to follow up with my own thread, I found a few different posts on other sites regarding blooming too early, it appears to happen when the plant is root bound, since mine were indoors for slightly longer than planned I imagine this is what triggered it. I've pinched off the blooms, so hopefully the plant will recover and bloom properly in a few weeks. I also have a few seedlings I found growing in my compost that I've transplanted into the garden bed so thankfully if anything does happen to the ones I started indoors I have a few "backups".
