Hi! I have a Lapageria rosea, (Chilean bellflower) that has done just OK in my garden and I now have more time to devote to making it flourish. I have read that it does not do well when 'lime' is given to the plant. I recently realized that perhaps lime means calcium carbonate. I know that my water supply is hard and probably contains high amounts of calcium carbonate. So am concluding this is a culprit holding the Lapageria from doing better. I also read that adding small amounts of vinegar to water (1 tsp of 5% per quart water) will provide a more acidic environment.
Does anyone have any experience with Lapageria and can comment / make suggestions on the above? Plant background: its about a 25-30 year old in the ground vine. Produces flowers every year, the vine is 'scrawny' at best, not really something you would expect with a 25+ year old vine. Its root ball was planted in clay soil, but a large hole dug first with organic amendments. And is in moderate to heavy shade. The vine is in moderate shade with lightly filtered sunlight. Its located in the San Francisco Calif Bay Area. There is new growth every year, but not a lot. Hoping someone can make suggestions. Thanks for helping
