I just received a Dracaena sanderiana lucky banboo plant from a friend. It is in a terracotta pot I think with general potting soil like a maybe miracle grow something.

I also have a green rubber plant. It was getting extremely tall so I topped it. Now the cutting at the top is brown where a new leaf was supposed to appear and it has dropped 2 or 3 leaves. It had been in soil for about 2 to 5 weeks, I've lost track of the time. Any suggestions/reasons for this to happen to the cutting?

I found a piece of dracaens jenny Craig in the prash about the 3rd week of November. It had been struggling and the leaves have been regularly turning brown from the bottom up toward the top. It's starting to run out of green on the top, so I'm getting nervous about how and what to do to help this plant survive.
It was in water for a little over a month because I had no idea what it was. Then I put it in potting soil_miracle grow with some pearlite to keep the soil from getting too compacted. What soil situation is best?

I had to top it because just below the green the stem looked like it was drying out and I figured this was why the green was going brown. It's still going brown but more slowly.
I planted the top and a 3 to 4 inch length from the origional plant into another pot with the same soil mixture.

What did I do right/wrong? Should I do anything now? I don't want to do more harm but I also don't want to lose this plant and hope all of this plants parts will survive.

Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.
