They look like an eastern American species, probably Lilium michiganense or L. superbum. If we knew a little more about where you garden and where you bought them from, it might help There are probably still some cultures that call any lily a martagon, if the flower faces down with strongly recurved petals. It may not have been a mistake, just inaccurate.
