I just did a quick google search so I don't have an detailed response for you. Those are just a few things I read when I googled maggots in soil. Some say they are good for compost bins because they aerate the soil. But in the garden they can destroy the roots of your plants. I wasn't arguing in favor of maggots. Quite the contrary actually, I'm bummed about having to get rid of the contents of that container.
