@GrammaChar, Were you successful at propagating your Agastache ssp. from cuttings (in 2016)?
@Danita is correct, semi-hardwood cuttings "taken right as the stems were firming up. Not too soft, not too hard" are ideal for Agastache ssp. propagation.
That's where my Agastache are right now. I've got one especially big, healthy, cold tolerant, heavy blooming Agastache rupestris which I'm attempting to propagate. Took twelve or so cuttings from lower, non-blooming, secondary branches. Stripped 1/2 to 2/3 of the leaves from the stems, cut several of the longest leaves in 1/2, dipped cut stem ends in a weak (1000 ppm IBA) rooting powder, and stuck lowermost one to two nodes in a pot of wet coarse sand/v. fine gravel. Placed this pot outdoors in dappled shade (am sun only), under a translucent (not transparent) plastic dome with ventilation holes. Occasional hand misting (twice daily) of vegetation and inside of dome. Cuttings are still fresh and healthy looking today (day 13). No necrosis, but also no new veg growth yet. Lightly watered the cuttings and media by hand with a can on day 10 and started to expose the pot to greater light and lower humidity outside the dome for a few hours daily. Wish me luck. Has anyone propagated A. rupestris from cuttings?
