The plant has green sap; Phyllanthus balgooyi is a hyperaccumulator of nickel (Ni) having a concentration of 16% or greater in the phloem. The plant also accumulates cobalt and zinc but in lesser amounts.

The plant most often grows as a shrub of approximately 5 feet or may be a tree up to 29+ feet.

The plant is found in Palawan and Sabah. There are some reference works with the name P. palawanensis.
