Since my soil does drain so fast I've try more frequent watering in active growth.

Well... They may be a bit confused, with lighting.
I got lazy a few years ago and the plants growing in the tanks, I stopped changing the light schedule. Last year I bought some new timers for my lights to make it easier to change. Long story short, I did not bring my lighting up all the way this spring. I'll start shorting my light schedule next month.
This is what I have done in the past:

January - 12hrs (program 5) 7-7
February - 12 1/2hrs (4) 7-7:30
March - 13hrs (3) 7-8
April - 13 1/2hrs (2) 7-8:30
May - August - 14 hrs (1) 7-9
September - 13 1/2hrs (2) 7-8:30
October - 13hrs (3) 7-8
November - 12 1/2hrs (4) 7-7:30
December - 12hrs (5) 7-7

My watering is about to change. Going to watering every other week for a few weeks before I stop watering a lot of my plants.
