Daylilies & hardy hibiscus
It seems pretty clear that the AHS definition pertains to a flower's throat and the dividing line between the throat and "the surrounding petal tissue." I took that to mean the main petal color OR the eyezone color. I think this is borne out by all the pics of cultivars with contrasting throats and eyezones above.

Since there's no such thing as an "appliqued eye," how would a hybridizer describe a cultivar where the EYEZONE color is clearly delineated from and doesn't bleed into the outer petal color? After all, if a throat color can stop at a sharp line, surely EYEZONE color can too?

I tried to find an example, but all of the cultivars I grow fall short (there's bleeding/blending between eye/band color and outer petal color). All the Intangibles is close, but it's not exactly what I'm talking about.
