Please just pause a moment and compare the shape of the flowers heads. Xerophyllum tenax-Beargrass flowers are short,fat, almost round,almost pyramid shaped.With unopened flowers on the top.

Nothing like the flowers that started this thread ..which are thin, sparce...a spike with flowers open from top of the stem to the bottom. See pic 3 below.
This mystery plant was successfully Id'd on 14th Oct by janinilulu as Schoenocaulon......everything matches..flower and leaves.
