I am trying to identify a flower and not getting much help. It comes from a small bulb and blooms very early in the spring with bright blue star-shaped flowers (6 petals each) and grass like green foliage. The blue flowers die after about 2 weeks, leaving the foliage. Then it blooms again with white star-shaped flowers that are similar to Star of David flowers. They last a couple weeks, then die and the plant is dormant the rest of the year. I've been told it's a weed, a phlox, a glory of the snow, and "never heard of such a thing". I'd really like to know what it is because I want more...

That is weird about not producing two different flowers because I didn't plant these bulbs...I think they were brought by squirrels or something - but it's the same plant that bears the flowers. The only thing in the flower bed were tea roses until a single plant appeared one year and they have now spread within the flowerbed and to other parts of the yard - each plant follows the same pattern - blue first, then white. The white flowers remind me of the plant going to seed or something (not that it makes any sense because there are little bulbs there). Sorry, I don't have a picture - not living in that house any more.
