I'm really not much help. I usually quit paying attention to them early October. I don't cut mine back in the fall. I have noticed that the ones with thicker foliage do tend to last longer. I think placement helps too. Last week I noticed some behind a building that still looked pretty good. My gardens that are not protected from the winds and frost are done for the year.
When all is said and done, there’s more said than done.
