I tried these last year for the first time. They didn't do much and looked kind of dumb.

I have a few volunteers popping up in the garden now, at least I think that's what they are. Are they hardy annuals, half-hardy, or tender ones? We have a little frost right now, supposed to be a freeze tonight. Makes me wonder whether the volunteers will survive the cold.

Another question- when should they be pinched to encourage branching? I want them nice and full like seedsower's.
